New Boxster going back to flat 6
Apologies if this has been already posted here, but thought that this could be of some interest.

I think that's just for the Boxster Spyder, which is the Boxster equivalent to the Cayman GT4. They are both getting the GT 3 4 liter non turbo flat 6. 718 Boxsters and Caymans are sticking with the flat 4 turbo, although I've seen some articles speculating the Boxster and Cayman may not be long for this world.

Sounds like a pretty exciting car.
Have to think that this will be a 6 digit car. They may sell 3-5 units here in the US. Maybe 1 might actually get driven the rest remaining in their original packaging next to the Beanie Baby and Hess Truck collection I can see why the Boxster could be coming to it's end. Seems the concept of the 986 and it's refined 987 is lost and the sale figures mirror that. |
i don't see Boxster/Cayman coming to an end...
what ever journalists they were...looking at numbers seems not to be their assests...lol https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/annual-sustainability-report-2017/performance/brief-overview-fy-year-2017-14988.html |
Noting that this car is a bit off-topic chronologically away from the focus of this board, nevertheless I was somewhat surprised to see that they were going to use a normally aspirated flat 6 for what might well be a halo car for them.
I had thought that they had bought into the all-turbo-all-of-the-time philosophy. Still, certainly sounds like a very nice car, one that any of us here would love to own. Now, just you watch, don't be too surprised if this car is made to be unavailable with a manual stick tranny, and is only sold with automatic tranny paddle shifters! Thanks - DM |
