Passenger 996 bose subwoofer retrofit
Well my audio upgrade has turned into a government cost over run project. After extensive searching with not much happiness for a subwoofer solution, i found a 996 cabrio bose passenger footwell subwoofer with same color carpet as my boxster.
Question does anybody know how it mounts in the car? It should be same as a 996 i guess, but a picture would help me think over install. Also is there enough room to use a .25” spacer on top of factory enclosure when installing oversize speaker? Want to get enclosures ready for speakers going to use .25” 6.5 adaptor bonded onto factory enclosure. Plan is make it passive power it from alpine amp sub channel, going to test it with bose speakers if it sounds ok will leave otherwise going to pull guts fiberglass it closed and mount a 6.75” kicker sub or an 8” if there is enough volume. Will put female rca jacks so i can plugin connection or unplug easy and remove if needs arrise. Should look factory when i am finished. Anybody following my other thread i have all my bits in shipping. HU pioneer 80 prs Amp Alpine pdx v9 Hertz mille 165.3 pro 3 way components 996 bose passenger footwell subwoofer |

I would say: Don't worry about adding a sub till after you install those three ways, and decide its not enough low end. Maybe you'll be happy enough to forgo the added cost and complexity.

I figure. Will see what it sounds like, but talked to 3 different installers via email all say will need a sub. The diy audio forums all say need sub. Makes me winder what happened to to car audio, in my day someone running 10”s had a show system. Now seems a sub is a standard. At anyrate i will have everything i need for killer system. |
I built a fiberglass enclosure that goes where the Bose sub would normally be. It contains a Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 8-inch Shallow-Mount Subwoofer and sound great.

I almost ordered those Audison speakers myself. Is there enough room to have a .25 inch spacer under the door speaker? Also how do you get 5he factory radio frame out, instructions are not clear. |

Gravity seems to hold it just fine, the old soft storage cubby that was there was held in that way. I have a hardtop that is almost always on, only time the soft top is up is when I get caught in the rain, so I don't think it's going anywhere. i'm looking for some gray vinyl that matches the interior to finish it off. |
