RTS - roof top system - no go for modern bikes?

Several years ago I got a Porsche RTS for my boxster. I finally got around to installing it and found that my carbon frame bike can't be mounted because the frame tubes are much wider than older bikes with steel frames. Has anyone encountered this? Did you fabricate something to make it work? Or, has Porsche now updated the design for newer cars? Maybe a newer cars bike rack can be attached to the old RTS.

Just a thought. Maybe you can find an appropriate clamp from Yakima and or Thule that you can modify to work with the Porsche rack?

That's using the ol' noodle. Or, appropriately aged noodle.

I don't know if the design of the bike rack has changed, but if it has, the 986 RTS accepts any Porsche roof rack accessory. As far as I can tell, they have never changed the size of the rails. My new ski rack was advertised for the Cayenne, and fit my 986 RTS perfectly. I have also used Thule accessories that clamp around the bars without any problem.

I have an RTS for my Boxster S, and recently picked up a used Yakima Raptor Aero roof mounted bike rack.

I haven't mounted it up yet, but it looks like the "Universal Mighty Mounts" that come with it should work fine with the RTS rails. The part of the rack that grabs the frame looks pretty wide - I can't believe your down tube would be too wide for it.

Again, I haven't tried it, but it looks like it should work.

The problem often is Thule USA, which thinks we all drive SUVs.

Best to shop UK websites for Thule stuff.
