Recommendations for bulbs for Litronics
Hi everyone,
I have a 2000 Boxster S with Litronics, and I feel like the bulb light is a bit dimmed (old bulbs?) and I was figuring that modern bulbs would most likely improve the current situation but I am a bit lost as to what I should be replacing them with. Does anyone have recommendations for bulbs (I'm considering replacing low-beams, hi-beams and fog lights on both sides)? Is there something I should NOT do? Or something I should consider? |
Only the low beams are HID.
I wouldn’t replace the projectors to get a bi-xenon setup happening. If it were mine, I’d go with morimoto LED for high beam and probably leave the fog lights as halogen. Oh, and replace the Littonic/HID D1S burners with Osram Xenarc at 6000K colour temp. https://www.theretrofitsource.com/headlight-conversion-kits/porsche/boxster-hid-equipped/2000 |
theretrofitsource is about the worst place to buy bulbs due to their high markup. Apparently, they also don't know what type of bulb 986/996 Litronics use.
The bulbs are D2S, not D1S. HID bulbs are not high-tech anymore, so paying more than $10 per set is just foolish. Any aftermarket HID projectors likely run $10 bulbs (mine do) and they are very bright. https://m.ebay.com/itm/2X-35W-D2S-D2R-D2C-Xenon-Car-Replacement-HID-Factory-Headlight-Light-Lamp-Bulbs/272394738179?hash=item3f6bfdda03:m:mCWDteAlJ8j6a-a092JLyng If you must pay more to feel more secure, you could spend 4x-25x more, but there is no need. Try the $10 set above and see for yourself. Worst case, you're out $10. ;) Stick with 5000k or below unless you like purply-blue lights. https://m.ebay.com/itm/USA-German-Genuine-Philips-D2S-Xenon-Bulbs-Part-85122-Free-Ship/122108639372?hash=item1c6e3df88c:g:59wAAOSwT5tWKWP s |
Hm, so it seems i'm the only one who wants to prevent acrylic glass covered headlamps and acrylic lenses from getting yellow. This is why i only use bulbs with uv cut. Also i only use parts i get from a local parts store, that doesn't sell me cheapo china crap that looks like a quality brand product but is just a fake product. You will be impressed how much better an OEM bulb can be.
Replaced my D2S after 12 years, used Osram D2s. Noticeably better light. Just my 2 cents… Markus |

Look, I don’t want to lose either of you from the forum. I enjoy learning from folks who have forgotten way more than I’ll ever know about these cars. Like this post - my lights work and I’m pretty sure I’ll never upgrade, but I read this ******************** anyway. Don’t screw it up. Use PM to get your stabs in. Spare the enthusiast here the whatever you call that behavior.

Recommendations for bulbs for Litronics
Thanks Particleweave, I did wonder at that as my handbook says D2S, but I figured it was either because mine is RHD, or because mine is a 2002.
I disagree that the cheap burners are as good, as do many others, but I’m sure the OP has a brain and will investigate for themselves and find what’s right for them. My suggestion is based on the assumption that it would make no sense to bother replacing a still working bulb with anything other than the best available. |

I've read some good things about the Nightbreakers, would these be compatible? https://www.ebay.de/itm/Osram-Xenarc-Night-Breaker-Unlimited-D2S-66240XNB-HCB-Autolampe-Duobox/282633959526?hash=item41ce4bf866:g:-xMAAOSwZFdafA7l Or perhaps stick with something like this? https://www.ebay.de/itm/OSRAM-D2S-66240CLC-Xenarc-CLASSIC-Xenon-Scheinwerfer-Lampe-ORIGINAL-NEU/382020321070?epid=1928330757&hash=item58f22f7f2e:m :mdbsAw9MHB-ewfvk7p4u_Vg |
