Hey guys, I'm looking to swap out my 6spd trans for a non second gear issue trans, I found a ebay 6spd trans with 35k, but it has a busted bell housing, from a accident, and I'm buy a used bell housing off ebay to, I'm hoping this ebay trans is in great shape, I guess I will fine out, I'm a 39 year mechanic and owned 17 porsche in my life time, but this will be my first G86.20 trans teardown, no real tools are needed to pop the rear housing off, any help would be appreciate, I will post pictures, Thanks.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1518053187.jpg

Just curious what issue you have in second gear.

I have no experience with Porsche transmission, but I do with BMW 5 speed motorcycle ones. Read everything you can before you start. On the bimmer trans, there are shims that have to be measured and put in to preload the gear shafts. Too loose and the trans will be sloppier than normal (they are sloppy!) too tight and the trans will not turn.

This should be interesting. What happened to your old trannie? Why don't you have it rebuilt (or rebuild it yourself?) Keep us in the loop, and good luck.

Thanks guys, my old trans has the second gear grinding and popping out issue and 4th has a small grind going into gear, looking at the fluid, it was not service on time or never. My new to me trans should be here wed. I will take a lot of pictures. I will pull the rear cover off me old trans, just to see how bad it is, and yes I will rebuild it myself, Thanks guys.

Thanks Meir, I like these guys, willing to do what everybody is afraid to do, the guys that charge $4k to $5k to rebuild your trans, have trans return back to them for issue, I'm willing to take that jump and post my good and bad ideals and maybe it will help other out, Thanks.

I'm very impressed, on how clean the trans is, every gear and synchronizer, is perfect, everything looks new, this trans was well taken care of, the inside magnet, was very clean, thumb up to QualityPorscheParts out of Albuquerque, NM.

Well guys and girls, the trans job is finish, Thanks to my two friends, who push me in to starting on it fast then I wanted, There was a couple of mistake, that I did, but it's a learning lesson, first one was never pull the rear casing side bolt out, it holds a gear and a roller bearing in place, for most of you guys, you will just repair your trans, by replacing second gear, which I didn't need to, the trans I bought had 35k on it and everything look brand new on the inside, so just switching the casing over was pretty ease, when I put the trans in my boxster s this summer, I will take my old trans apart and replace second and fourth gear, that's when the real work will start, using pulleys and gear separator, heating and freezing gears, but for now I have a nice 6 spd trans ready to be installed, here are some pictures, Thanks for looking.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1519023066.jpg
