Factory replacement engine ?

In my quest to try and determine whether my new to me 2000 2.7 has a single or double (and I have learned that the only true way is to pull it), I ran into LN's page that states the engine is a factory replacement if it has a "Y" in the engine number. Mine does. ( https://lnengineering.com/news/engine-original-1997-2008-boxster-cayman-911-model/ )

The carfax listed the selling dealer so I reached out to them and even though the carfax showed they serviced the car untill 40k miles, they stated they had no record of it.....seems kind of odd.

Can anyone confirm that
1. The Y does in fact indicate that at some point in time the motor was replaced with a factory crate motor
2. Any suggestions on how to find when the motor was replaced

Thanks

Take the engine number and/or the VIN to a Porsche dealer and the can tell you the origin. My reman'd engine has the later version of the IMSB which suggests that it was rebuilt after 2005.

My engine is installed, but I'm working on it, I'll see if I can get the engine # off it. It was originally installed in a 2000 Boxster Base.

It was serviced at 3 dealers during the first 70k miles. The first dealer had no record of the vin even though it had been in 6 times.....maybe they purge their records.

I'll hit up the 2nd servicing dealer as you recommended Brian.
