Brake sensor wire support clip parts question
I just replaced the suspension in my '98. I did the rears first and had no major issues, but in the front, on the first side I did, in the process of siding the shock out of the wheel carrier, I broke two small plastic clips which held the brake pad sensor wire to the shock and to the brake line respectively. I have the wires temporarily tied in place, but I would like to replace the correct support clips. I am kind of finicky about using original style parts for replacement since I know once I start down the path of zip ties and string, I will soon have a beater. I have looked at the Porsche Classic parts diagrams and cannot identify them from the drawings, and I sent a note to Pelican and they did not seem to be able to Identify them. Does anyone know how to find the right part numbers for these and where I might procure them?
Here are pictures of the broken parts. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1517877452.jpg This is the clip that holds wire to brake line. You can see I just spread it too wide and it cracked. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1517877482.jpg This clip straddles the lower hole on shock to hold brake line. When I pulled the shock out of the carrier, it just sheared off. This clip does not exist in the rear. There the sensor wire has a sleeve with a groove that slides into a mating slot on the shock. In the front, the shock has a closed hole so it needs a clip like this. Help! |
The best approach is to start by finding the part numbers in the Porsche Boxster parts listing: https://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/986_USA_KATALOG.pdf and then do a Google search suing the part number.
These are simple, non-critical parts, so I would have no hesitation buying them from eBay. You can also contact Woody (itsnotanova in this forum) and ask him if he has the used parts. I suspect for something like this you may as well purchase new parts, |
Have you called parts at Pelican? I would bet that they can help.
Making do with zip ties doesn't make your car a Beater. 20 years is a long time, plastic dies! |

I have looked through the Porsche Boxster parts listing: https://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/986_USA_KATALOG.pdf a hundred times and cannot seem to find the parts anywhere. I was hoping someone else might have had this problem and knew what they were, or what system they would show up in.
With regard to Pelican, They could not figure it out from my description and for some reason they could not see photos when I emailed them. I think it was some Apple incompatibility. Since I now see the photos here, maybe that will solve the problem. I'll refer them here. |

Seriously, I'd recommend "deleting" the sensors entirely by shorting them out to stubs. As a detailed person, I'm sure you are checking your pad thickness w/ regularity. Plus its make cleaning the wheels & calipers easier especially for a particular people. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1517934358.jpg Otherwise a few dabs of JB Weld I'm sure can mend those broken pieces making them better than new. Good luck :) |
ZIBODO,
Pelican Parts has it. It is part number 999-507-464-40. I think it goes for about $2.75. But, I bet Woody might have a used one or two. Good luck. MNC-I |
Perfect part for a 3D printer!!

Thanks a million mnc-i! Can I ask how you found it? Wes at Pelican was stumped. OK not to press my luck, but you are so good, do you have any ideas on the other one?

Zibodo,
I saw a similar request on the RENNLIST (996 forum). I figured since the 986 and 996 are the same from the dash forward (the windshield is different) that it would be the same part. MNC-I |
