Boxster Ignition Switch Cross Reference

Morning everyone. Been on the hunt for an ignition switch locally and have some cross reference numbers for those who use the Box as a daily and can't wait on shipping parts.

This ONLY for ignition switch Audi/VW 4b0 905 849 which my car had installed as an 01 S.

Borg Warner CS781 - Napa
Import Direct 18-0551 - Orielly's
Duralast LS966 - Lifetime Warranty from Autozone

Hope this helps someone....Thanks!

Hope you find a good one. I bought the NAPA brand one as I couldn't wait for the Meyle I ordered online, and it only lasted 6 months, the original lasted 13 years. The cheaper ones made in China are made from a harder, more brittle plastic that doesn't hold up nearly as well as the Euro brands.

I thought the 4B0 switch was for 2004 and up and the earlier cars took the 4A0 switch. My '00 S has the 4A0 p/n.

I'd highly recommend 986 owners keep a spare in their car. Mine kinda crapped out abruptly, though I'm lucky that the major symptom was that the car wouldn't shut off (ignition was stuck in accessory with the key out) so I was at least able to drive home.

There are some that are Amazon Prime eligible, which might be another quick option for some.

I ordered mine from Amazon a few days ago and it arrived today. It was $12. I'll keep the old one as an emergency spare.

356Guy,

Can you post the link to the Amazon switch you got for $12? I see a few that would work for my base 1999 but ain’t sure about quality (l am also in Canada). Thanks

Its cheaper at Pelican if you are already buying something there (shipping kills) I would probably just go to the Audi or Porsche dealer if I was in a hurray.

Good. Ordered that one as an “extra”. The part worked well for you?

If the part had been updated to the newer style it’s the B designation. You are correct in that the original piece is replaced with the A designated part number.
