Boxster Christmas Presents! 2017

Merry Christmas!

I created a thread like this last year, and it was fun to see what everyone got for their Porsche on Christmas! So what did you get?

I got a framed 986 prototype print, but my dad really won this year. I visited the Porsche factory in Stuttgart in May, and commented on the nifty uniforms the Porsche factory workers wear. He shocked me with a nifty custom mechanics jumpsuit for when I work on my 986. I still can't tell if it was a joke or not.

My 1999 986 will be getting a new paint job and maybe a wrap. Also steering wheel and new or painted rims. Saving up for that now.

Joke or not, the jumpsuit is cool.

RedTele58 12-25-2017 06:40 PM

Wow! I'm jealous - that jump suit rocks!

Ciao 12-25-2017 07:23 PM

I like the jump suite but the framed Patent will last a lifetime

Love the print..and jumpsuit is very nice. Kudos for thought. Regarding the print, I didn't know you could patent an entire car...unique parts, sure...but the entire car? Guess I learn something every day.

Regarding Christmas, this was the first year my wife and I did absolutely nothing. I shoveled the driveway and changed out some light fixtures while she did some laundry and watched TV; she had a microwave meal and I'm about to nuke a burrito. Admittedly it felt like something was lacking, but then again, I guess the excitment of Christmas and presents is more for the young anyway. This all sounds like I am being awfully negative, but it's just an honest statement, and and really I'm OK with it. I do sincerely hope all here did have a wonderful Christmas...and extending best wishes for a safe and happy New Year.

Mechanic's shirts are quite "in style" these days so I think that coverall's are pretty darn cool!

We're not opening gifts until Sat so I'll have to wait until then...

Utility Patent vs Design Patent

Patent law provides a first legal protection for automobile designs. When the term "patent" is mentioned, what comes to mind most frequently is what is known as a "utility" patent - a patent that protects a new and useful process, machine, manufacture or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof. However, another type of patent exists, known as a "design" patent.

Generally, a utility patent is available for the functional aspects of a product (e.g., a new and non-obvious convertible top system), while a design patent is available for the ornamental features of a product (e.g., the look of the automobile not dictated by functional features). Theoretically, a line can be drawn between the two such that a feature obtaining design patent protection cannot, also, obtain utility patent protection.

The key requirement in obtaining design patent protection is for the design to be new, non-functional and non-obvious to one of ordinary skill in the art - e.g., an average designer in the automobile industry. If and when a design patent is granted, the owner of the design patent will be entitled to 14 years from the issue date of the right to exclude others from making, using, offering to sell or selling the patented design.

Over the last 2 months I got myself a few things for my boxster.

997 TB
997 tee
Cayman spoiler
eBay short shifter
987 airbox
Top speed headers
Top speed bypass pipes
4th stalk for obc should be arriving just after New Years

What is the benefit of a 987 airbox in a 986? I'm curious. Thank you.

Anker 12-27-2017 04:50 AM

Tire pressure gauge, tire pyrometer and Vic Elford's Porsche High Performance Driving Handbook, 2nd edition.

Less restrictions in the intake tract, frees up more ponies

You weren't even clever suggesting I do a search. P*ss off, mate. I'm just trying to encourage dialogue. Have a nice day.

To me from ....me. Took a sales poster and had it professionally framed.

I bought myself the Rennline gas pedal cover, side extenders and spacer plate that goes underneath it. Hope it will help me with Heal and Toe maneuvers during HPDEs. If I was driving faster and pushing the brakes further down, my gas pedal would be in the same plane as the depressed brake pedal. I'm hoping with that spacer that goes underneath the cover I'll be able to blip the throttle. Of course if I get faster and am braking much harder, the spacer may eventually come out!

Started installation of a Polk Audio amp to replace the 6X40 Haes amp and DSP. Finished all cabin connections, all wires run through existing body holes to the frunk, fabrication the of the mounting bracket almost done. Now I have the flu, and its not near as much fun as I remember. The Haes amp, DSP, 6 disc Becker changer, and all brackets for installation will soon be for sale. Components will include the connectors for CDR220, DSP, Haes amp and CD changer.

Nothing for the boxster this year but I go the new Gran Turismo. It has an absolutely amazing photo mode! And for the first time ever a couple porsche vehicles (gt3 RS, gt4 clubsport, gt3 rsr, 919 hybrid).

Also... Beat Bama!

Brockmeister 12-30-2017 09:48 PM

I bought myself 2 new Goodyear Eagle Sport from tires and a four wheel alignment. Drives like a new car again!

thstone 12-31-2017 09:19 AM

A couple of books + kart racing funds...

Let’s see.... most are gifts coming “from wife to me”, but I actually determined what I needed and just bought it all. This way, there are no errors!

A EZ car lift, used.
A 10.5amp Dewalt corded drill (to operate the EZ Lift)
4 wheel dollies
New muffler for the Boxster
Short shifter
Spare ignition switch
Mobil 1 oil
K&N Oil filter
Various hand held tools
Car cover
101 Porsche Boxster projects
Trickle charger/tender
... and I am certain I missed a few items.

Mother Claus been good to me!

Happy new year everyone: health and happiness to all.
