Double Whammy

Last week, my boxster sprung a leak at the water pump, ok, no big deal I can fix that. This week, I went to show my brother the engine in my garage, while pulling up the top, the plastic rear window cracked at the bottom left edge. I guess it's too cold at 48 degree F to open the top.

I guess it's truly time to put her away for the winter. :(

Still love my 986. Merry Christmas All.

Sorry to hear that. It happened to me last year with a beautiful clear window. The good side of it was that it motivated me to upgrade to a glass window top :D

Merry Christmas.

Never open/close the top below 70° F if you have a plastic window.

This really sucks, but isn't this mostly for OE tops after they have aged for some, almost 20 years now? Can't see this being on a new plastic top.

The PCA website had a glass window top for sale at a decent price.

Yeah, this is the original top, it did have a few very small noticeable stress cracks when I bought it. So I knew the life of the top was nearing its end, but I was hoping it would last another season. I didn't even think of the cold when i was opening the top.
Oh well, I know now not to open it at all in the winter.

So, I've read from itsnotanova that I can have a plastic window resewn in or should I just find a glass top. The top is in excellent condition and I don't mind the plastic rear window since it's larger view than the glass. Is the glass rear window worth it?

And for the other issue, I've purchased the pump, thermostat, and front motor mount. Is there anything else you guys could think of I could do while I'm changing the pump.

Was that in the East Coast? I don't have PCA membership to view the post.

Yeah vinyl+cold=bad... I snapped the case lid clean off a Rayban case once in 32deg conditions. I almost made that mistake with my top. If I have to open it up in the winter for some reason I warm it first with a hair dryer.

I would go for the glass top. When I was searching for my car , I was looking at 99s or earlier snd the plastic top was high on the list to be replace. However the 99 that I found, the owner had just replaced the top with a glass window replacement. I never drove with the plastic window so can't say much about the difference of visibility, however the freedom of bring able to but tol down whenever needed is priceless.
