What was your most forgettable car? LOL.

I guess this is the other half of my "regret not buying" post (and perhaps somewhat embarrassing to admit)...what cars have you owned that are the least notable and might be forgotten in automotive history?

As a disclaimer, I have owned many cars that I wish I still had, but I will admit that I have owned some *ahem* other cars....cars that if not now, will soon only be remembered by the populous only by a Google search. Without further adieu, and without any justification whatsoever: A Bobcat (not the Bobcat you might think), a Lynx and a Tracer.

After admission and typing, I don't know if I want to laugh or cry. Sigh.

it was a really nice clean car, but my 2000 Mercedes E430 just didn't do all that much for me. Sold it after 18 months.

Tie between a 1987 Dodge Shadow and a ‘78 Parisienne.
Two complete turds.

'73 Vega. Puke green. I will give her this: she ran and ran...and that wasn't true of a fair number of Vegas.

85.5 Mercury Lynx - surprisingly solid and reliable, but very blah. It was paired with an 83 RX-7, so it served the role of practical commuter.

92 Corolla - A fine but forgettable auto. Owned it 4 years. I wish I had those years back.

86 Cavalier - rear-ended and totalled after a month (thank God)

Here's a surprise - 2010 Acura TSX. Owned it 5 years. I respected it but I never loved it. It just never really excelled at anything.

I've decided in recent years never to own an uninteresting car again.

76 Ford Pinto Wagon stick shift in a horrible brown color (not a chick magnet)
77 Toyota Corolla stick in mustard yellow...at least I could find it in a parking lot.
77 Ford Courier pickup stick in some sort of green. No A/C, no radio, roll up windows, etc.
79 Triumph Spitfire 1500, also brown (what was happening here!). I wish I kept it but at the time couldn't keep up with the repairs and the rust...and no first gear, and no reverse and no gas gauge, etc...

$200 74 Ford Pinto 2.0 automatic.

74 Ford Mustang II 2.3 hatchback, bought it new as a valentines day present for the wife (she wanted it) , kept it 9 months (she hated it) traded it for a new 74 Fiat X1/9 (she took FTD in ladies class autocrossing it a few times and many first places).

We had a 1978 or 79 Honda Accord 2 door that we hated. It was a hot car at the time....nice little coupe with a CVCC engine and all.

You could not move the car from rest in first gear without bucking!! My wife and I took it on a trip from LA to Monterey and we had a contest to see who could get of the mark more smoothly.

I bought it on a good deal from Honda and actually sold it for a little more than i paid for it 8 months later.

Bought a 1979 Saab 900 Turbo coupe in black and LOVED it. Never bought another Honda......but bought a few more Saabs and Porches!!

Brown AMC Hornet of some year. $400. It ran, it rusted. No, no, I forgot (you did say forgettable!), it was a Volvo wagon of some sort. Every time you turned it off, it would dump a litre of petrol on the ground! I never did have a match handy...

A 1985 Ford Tempo and a 1986 Peugeot 505 GL wagon.

6 cyl 74 Nova. Rusted, leaked gas, doors would fly open around corners. What a turd but it started and got me to work every day

tommy583 12-05-2017 05:43 PM

1970's something Audi 100. It was an ok car until it lost 2nd 3rd and reverse gears. It was kinda fun winding it out in 2nd to get to 4th actually

rexcramer 12-05-2017 06:31 PM

My wife's 1976 Datsun B210 hatchback. :barf:

Teddyonine 12-05-2017 06:31 PM

1978 Fiat 131 wagon. Weighed 2 tons with a dinky 4cyl that could barely get it to 55mph- close second was a 1975 VW Rabbit in shock orange- windows fell off track every day and I had to use folded up cardboard for the rusted out floor pans. But I was poor and both helped me get to school and work which eventually payed off I suppose.

I owned an Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais. Must have been an early 90s model. White and I think it had two doors. I drove it for 2 years and that's all I can remember about it. I clearly remember the cars I had before and after it. Before was an '86 Chevy Van (loved) and '87 Chevette (tolerated). After the Olds, I was getting divorced and bought my soon-to-be ex a brand new Dodge Caravan and myself an old bicycle (as I was going to live on an airbase in Honduras for a year).

A 2000 Audi A4 1.8. Four cylinder 20 valve engine without turbo. 125 bhp, so it was slow, but at least it was thirsty. Back seat was quite uncomfortable on long trips. Sure it was reliable, but also boring.
In size it was quite similar to the current family car, a 2010 VW Golf Variant (estate) with a 122 bhp 1.4 liter turbo engine. Much more pleasant to drive, way better fuel economy and no problem to go on a 3500 mile (5600 km) tour through Europe with kids.

I don't remember.

My first car, an Austin Marina.

It was a simple sedan Box with 4 wheels and a manual choke lever, because it did not run well cold and all the instructions were in British so I learned about boots, facias, spanners and other obscure sounding things.

The only memorable thing about it was that the heater failed in a Canadian Winter snow storm and I ended up with frostbite on my toes and had to reach outside the window with a squeegee while driving to clear the window.

I think it was actually blowing cold outside air on my feet but I could not get heat or the vent to change.

One day I decided I needed more trunk space and had no qualms about taking a torch to the back seat frame and cutting it out to make a pseudo hatch back out of it.

I eventually sold it as scrap metal which made me quite happy.

All my other cars gave me fond memories but that Austin was one worthy of being forgettable.

An Austin Princess. It was a large, extremely comfortable car, but the build quality truly sucked. Within a year the paint started flaking off and we blew up the transmission by pulling a camping trailer. Fortunately my employer relocated me and gave me 20% on top of the listed retail value for the car.
