On my MY99, it seems to me that the climate control returns to the mode it was in when I last turned the car off. If I don't want the Auto mode, I manually turn off the AC by hitting the snowflake button, then tap the temperature down until it says "Lo", and set the fan manually to about 4 bars. It comes back that way on restart everytime for me.

I would like to know if this is possible as well......It doesn't come back to the mode it was in before you shut off the car tho, I turn mine off most of the time, unless the temperatures are extreme (cold or hot)..... Always starts up automatically when I start the car...

Hi,

Not possible - it's the default setting. You can run the Fan speed all the way down and then hit it one more time and you'll turn the Climate Control totally OFF. Due to using one of the numeric display characters, the display will read OFf. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Sorry to get your hopes up, it looks like I am alone here. I must be on drugs, or my car has been modified in some way, but I stand by my previous post - mine comes back the way I left it, after following the previously posted procedure.

Paul, I recommend perusing your owner's manual. It may have something helpful in it for you for your boxster's model year.

I just started re-reading mine and already gleaned something new about the car that I missed the first two times.

Mine works exactly as Pauldee said. If I have the auto climate set to say 71 then turn it off by toggling down until it reads off and then hit auto it comes back on at 71. I know for a while it kept coming back on at 72 but now it comes back on to my setting. I'm going to have to check the procedure to be certain this is how I do it.

After some testing on my own car (a '99), if you want the whole system to be off at startup, you have to run the temp control all the way down, one punch past 65 to Lo, then run the blower speed down to OFf. Turn off the engine and restart and it will start up with the temp on Lo and the fan OFf. At least mine does.
The minute you increase the fan speed or temp settings, (or set to AUTO) it will bollix up the works and it will not return to Lo/OFf unless you reset it that way before engine shutoff.

I agree with several others, the default operation seems to be to bring up the (hv)AC system at whatever the settings were when the engine was shut off.
If the engine was shut off with the AC in AUTO mode, it will come up in AUTO and self adjust the temp and blower settings to reach the preset temp.

Same here. I mean, I also must be on drugs. But my temp starts where I left it. Guess we're the lucky ones.
