Actually...the key blanks are the same, so it's quite possible that the previous owner put his 996 blade in the VW flip key housing (maybe they wanted the flip key housing and didn't realize they could get one from the Cayenne).
Someone posted here about doing the same thing.

That said, a quick look at her Twitter feed says she's probably lying.
