1998 white boxster

Hi, we have have recently purchased a white boxster, 1998 2.5.
Problem 1 - engine runs a treat, but the engine check light has come on?.

Problem 2 - window wipers work with ignition only. When the engine is running the wipers won’t work?

Any ideas. ?

Thanks

1) Have you decoded the CEL? Most of the time the thing won’t go away unless its reset.

2) Probably a wiring issue. Could be something corroded or maybe a fuse.

1) Read the codes and see what the problem is.

2) Replace the electrical portion of the ignition switch.

How many miles on the car?

+1 on R&R-ing the switch.

Hi,

The car has 58000 miles its a 1998.

Just wondering now with the wiperers no working with engine running, should the roof operate with the engine running??

Sounds like an electrical problem with the ignition. Not sure if it was you but i saw a post on it yesterday.

The roof should only operate when the vehicle is in neutral with the parking break set.

Have seen problem number 2 on 911s.... Its likely a worn ignition switch. Once running try turning the ignition switch back counterclockwise to right before the point where it clicks over to kill the engine. When we did this, the wipers worked.
