Curios about this IMS rebuild...
 

I was reading through Niche's 2001 S for sale ad and saw this in the receipt:

Specifically I'm curious about the part I highlighted, "Cook the intermediate shaft... ...install open bearing." The engine builder looks like he has a great rep and knows what he was doing. Does this mean that the sprocket is TIG welded on the shaft and that the IMS bearing does not have any seals? Just splash lubed? Oil feed?

Looks like a nice car and a very good deal if you are looking for an upgraded S. If it had the red full leather interior, I'd be buying.

You can't TIG weld the sprocket if there is the slightest trace of oil between it and the shaft, which is why most knowledgeable shops pin the sprocket. If you heat up the assembly enough, you can burn the oil off, but God only knows what that does to the rest of the shaft.

The LN ceramic hybrid bearing has no oil seal on the flywheel side, so that the oil mist inside the cases can lubricate it. Adding oil feed to the LN bearing is actually detrimental to its life expectancy.
