New Muffler ... Woo Hoo

Assured by member here that 2003-4 muffler tips fit ok on earlier cars, so did this. Clearly the newer bumper design works a little better, but this is ok.

I'm VERY pleased at the sound change from this. It's subtle and I'd describe as similar to the "hollow" sound we hear from Mustangs and, yes, newer Porsche. Mostly noticeable accelerating, especially from lower rpm.

Pleasantly surprised, as I just did it for the look.

Well, they redisigned the muffler for 2003, so suppose they changed the internals as well as the tip mounting. For me, this is sample of one, so perhaps others will report ...

If you have the 03 muffler (regardless of what tip design) the internals are different, and it does sound better at low revs than the previous year mufflers. The tip design doesn't affect the sound, as it's just cosmetic.

One of the mufflers I have at one time on my 2001 S was a 2003 S muffler. I had if modified by FD Motorsport. FD Motorsports » Fister Exhaust – Boxster/Cayman It was by far the best sounding exhaust I have heard on a Boxster. And, that was with the secondary cats in place. To get some decent sound out of the PSE I had to remove the secondary cats. As much as I like the looks, rarity and uniqueness of the PSE, I prefer the sound of the modified '03s.
