New Boxster S owner, how to determine what should be there?

Recently purchased a 2001 Boxster S 6 speed manual, silver/black dash with the white/black instrument cluster, leather/silver(gray) shifter and trim. CDR-220 radio, no door speakers, no rear speakers, no amp. CD3 cd changer, electric seats, mirrors, soft top, 3.2L engine and stock as far as I can tell wheels (black/white center badges). Have the complete owners manuals including the card for the radio. Want to restore anything that might be missing but have no idea how to determine what should/should not be present. The car has the Litronics headlamps, headlamp washer jets though 2 nozzles are missing. There is the full color Porsche badge on the Frunk. No PORSCHE badge on the rear trunk. Just Boxster S.

Models before the 981 didn't have the porsche lettering on the rear. Take a look at the sticker under the front hood for the option codes, then match them with something like https://www.stuttcars.com/technical/option-codes/986-00-01/

Grab a copy of the PET (Boxster Parts Book PDF) from here:

http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/986_USA_KATALOG.pdf

Towards the end of the PDF are the MXXX codes - you can match them up to what's listed on the sticker under the front hood, then as you are skimming through the sections of the PET, the rightmost column will tell you which parts go with which option code (when there is a difference).

Congrats on getting a great car! Please post some pictures when you get a chance...

Here is how to decode the label under the front trunk:

https://i.imgsafe.org/91eafba824.jpg

And here is the list of options:
http://www.964uk.com/Documents/Porsche%20Option%20Codes.pdf

Match the factory option codes listed on the label under your front trunk with the list of options from the link above, and bingo, that is what came with your car when purchased from the dealer.

If you type this into your internet browser

and then continue typing your car's VIN right after the "=" with no spaces, you might get lucky and print a sheet that shows the option codes and what they mean, plus the exterior and interior colors.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Not a lot of info available but, the picture gives a clue at least. Tracking down the codes, it lists the CDC-3 changer and the CDR-220 radio but no major audio upgrades.

If you want to know what was available in a 2001 S, the "build sheet" for my last Boxster might help. Every once in a while, some of the factory marketing books from that era become available on eBay.

Welcome and safe travels. Please post a pic of your car, when you can.

Those are not your garden-variety options on a Boxster. Nice find.

Nice looking car and nice options. I hope you enjoy it! The VIN website thing doesn't say what the individual option costs were but the base price for a Boxster S including the delivery charge was probably about $50k to give you and idea of what the options added to the cost. Bose was the top audio option, but if you have door and rear speakers, then you at least have something. You can also see if there is an amp in the front trunk with the CDC-3 changer. Part of the "comfort" or "design" packages may have been some audio upgrades. My car is a 2003 S and it had no audio upgrades at all. Just the CDR 23 radio and speakers in the dash only.

For anyone interested here is the 2003 options list and prices from the period.
