Squeaky Steering Wheel

Is this a DIY job you've addressed recently?

The ball joint toad croaking emerged on my latest set of control arms. I hit a pot hole and heard a thud. I cut into the rubber boot thing and sprayed with white lithium WD-40 and it quieted the noise for now but the steering wheel is making a racket on hot days. No issue on damp or rainy days.
