Side Mirror Fell Off at 85 MHP

I was driving on the interstate this morning and notice a slight shakiness in my driver side mirror. When I looked back at the mirror it wobbled and fell off the car at 85 mph on the Interstate.

Anyone tell me the best place to get a replacement and how to attach it? My Boxter is a 2004.

The mirror attaches at only one point in the center (ball and socket type fitting) and likely has two wires that crimp on to allow the heated mirror. My memory is the plastic backing just pries off from either side once you have rotated it to allow pry space and used some thick rag to cover the shell so you don't mar the paint. Your luck is not all bad as you don't have to worry about cracking the glass in the mirror any more. It has been probably 11 years since I did one. You do have the option of installing a special Aspheric mirror which allows you to better cover your blind spot at the cost of some slight distortion. I liked mine on my first Boxster so much I bought one for my second and if a newbie like me could install it...

Aspheric is terrific

I have aspherics on BOTH sides and LOVE them.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I also recommend the aspheric mirrors. I have a set I bought off Steveox and I'm very pleased with them. They're super easy to replace. I sell the whole side mirror for $25+shipping but not the glass by itself.

Tikibarman- did you ever wonder and figure out why the mirror started to shake? I have the same issue but did a temporary fix with a piece of cardboard(not optimum)
