Covertable too question

I found out the tension cable on the passenger side is broken - long story how I found our but doesn't matter - anyway, when I went to check it out I verified it was indeed broken and also that there was a long strap with a velcro loop on the end that was not connected to anything.

My hunch is that strap is some sort of maintenance type thing - let's you support the top while working on the engine area, but with the broken cable I'm not sure.

Anyone know what that strap is for?

And is replacing the btoken tension cable as easy as removing the broken one and putting in a new one (not sure if it's supposed to thread thru the top or any kind of connector or just simply connect top and bottom). I've read a few things but the ones I did read were not very clear.

if your car is 03-04, then the strap is intended to hold the top up when in the service position.
the tension cable is connected using a ball-socket kind of attachment, so it's simple as pulling it out and replacing with new.

Yes, it's a 2004 so thanks for confirming. I will order a new cable and replace asap. Thanks.

The strap attaches to a Velcro pad located under the back middle of the convertible top to keep it out of the way of top operation.

Does the tension cable need to be adjusted at all, or just replaced?

only if you think the canvas is not tight enough, you can adjust by turning the screw next to the lower ball.
