Slight burning smell
 

I notice after vigorous driving I smell "burning" smell coming from engine when I get out of car.

I'm thinking it may be time to replace spark plug guides/seals. Does that sound right?

And if so is Pelican best place to get parts?

PS it's a '99 with about 80K

I'd bet about 100% its your tubes/seals. I've done mine twice in 132K miles. Its not a hard job but does take a bit of time with raising the car, pulling tires and coil packs.

Might want to do plugs while you're in there but not necessary if you think yours are still good.

I can't see details on Pelican. Does their kit with tubes o-rings and BERU plugs look like good deal? Or should I go Iridium?

BTW I only smell on drivers side - if I sniff by intake. Not passenger heat exhaust side.

could be power steering fluid - the ps pump in on driver side and the overflow dumps onto the engine block. could also just be bits of tire getting onto the hot exhaust immediately behind it. could be cv boot on that side throwing a bit of grease.

Just went through this. I had two leaky plug tube seals on the left bank. Replaced 'em all and it's good as new again.

I had a similar hot petroleum odor on mine. Traced it to the transaxle output seal on driver side. Changed seal and all good now.
