Grey with a blue top
First things first, when is it appropriate to call the color darker than silver grey vs. gray?
Okay, now the real reason for the post. If you were ever curious what a gray 986 looked like with a navy blue top, here are a couple of pictures. This gray 2000 986 S came with a black top that of course had a plastic rear window. The plastic window was trashed. There is no one in Decatur, IL that will sew in a new window. Please recommend someone who can within 2 hours drive. Funny, the ad below your article made me think your top may not match your car's paint, but her top does... :-)

I hadn't seen grey with a blue top, it looks nice.
BTW, that color appears to be Seal Grey, and the top is Metropol Blue. |

Might work with some matching or black calipers and/or other Metropol Blue accents, but too much going on right now with the Seal Grey, blue, silver and red. ;)

Grey with a blue top
Not sure if that is Seal Grey, looks too dark. This is my seal grey with the metropole blue top and dark blue / navy leather.
Check the paint code inside frunk lid or on service book. Mine is L6B4 http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...psriqhqzni.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
did you try Logan's 875-7506 or Sunroof Pro 330-7234?

Was there a car in this post?

Grey with a blue top
Double check the paint code inside the frunk lid. Should be L6B4, that's what mine says anyway. That colour looks too dark I think.
This is a pic of my Seal Grey with Metropole blue top and dark blue / navy leather. http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...psriqhqzni.jpg (Sorry about double post, first one didn't appear at all so thought I messed up hence the second one 8 hours later) |
Paint code L23F
Thanks for the comments, pro and con. This is paint code L23F, slate grey metallic. Yes, it is darker than seal grey. Trac it works for your Boxster and I've seen blue tops on Artic Silver, which works too. Blue on top of white is great. I kind of agree with Particlewave, if on this color, the blue top needs to be tied into the car somewhere else. Interior is black. The calipers have faded and gotten dull, I'll consider paint.
Thanks for the shop suggestions, a few years ago the local shops would install a top, but not replace a rear window, I'll check again, Thanks, Joe |
Gray vs. Grey
Both versions are acceptable. The difference is "gray" is more common in the U.S. while "grey" is the British version (and all other English-speaking former countries of the British Empire). Since British English is the version taught in German schools, it makes sense Porsche would use the British version.
And, BTW, if you use the British version, you should indicate that the colour is grey, while in the U.S. the color is gray. :) DBear |
English
Thank you dbear for that explanation. Interesting how English has evolved from country to country.

Your seal grey looks good.
I just installed a blue top on my arctic silver. Would have preferred red on silver but was offered a deal on the blue top. I was questioning the color combo but after install i like it. The blue top gives some originality vintage classy points & the glass adds a touch of refinement. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1495855354.jpg |
