Suction Cup Damage?
 

Top O the Morning, Gents.

I recently bought a radar detector (first ever). In reading the manual, it warns " A few vechicles, (including some Porshces) have windshields with a soft anti-lacerative coating on the inside surface. Use of suction cups will permanently mar this coating"

Yikes !! I hate they called out my brand specifically but it was enough to put the brakes on in attaching!

Anyone have experience with this or preventive measures (besides "Dont' Speed" :) )?

What'd you get, a Passport? My manual said the same thing in reference to Porsches. I've been using mine for a while, it's fine. I think it's refering to older Porsches or something.

Don't believe Jeph. He can't be trusted on Fridays. Period.

That windshield thing is no laughing matter. It will mar your windshield and nothing will fix it except for total glass replacement.

I recommend finding a couple of spare sheetrock screws and mount it to the top of your dash. This way, you don't even have to worry about the window. ;)

....just kidding of course.

However, a guy I considered a good friend told me he wanted to swing by and show me the pristine pre-owned Mustang convertible he bought a few weeks back. An hour later, he pulls up in a 5 year old Mustang with maroon paint and tan leather... actually a really clean and beautiful car.

Then he told me to hop in for a spin around the block and I noticed his first mod—he didn't like the cup holder location in the center console so he took a "hang it on the window sill" kind of silly cup holder one might find at Wal-Mart on closeout special and screwed it to the front of his dashboard with sheetrock screws. :(

The next time I got in the car, oh, six months later, the sheetrock screws had fallen out because he never hit metal... so he moved the whole thing over an inch and screwed it into some fresh plastic. :eek:

He's so gifted with a guitar and smart in many ways. Musta flunked out of the class on common sense and auto care though.

I am using the Passport with suction cups and I have not had any damage to the windshield.
