Prices going up?
My cheap bone is becoming uncomfortable because the prices for Boxters and parts seems to be increasing. Anybody else feeling that trend?
|
In the US anyhow, I believe what you're feeling is called "Summer."

What would anyone in Alaska know about "Summer" ?!!?! I grew up in Michigan where summer, with luck, might be as much as six days long. Summer in Alaska? you're looking at 7 seconds. :D |
From May to July the Sun doesn't set! That's a lot of time to keep the top down and enjoy! It's Sunny and 63 today. I work odd hours and get the privilege of driving in to work at 4am with daylight and empty roads.
I only make the crack about "Summer being the reason prices seem to be going up" because the prices for convertibles here in AK triples from April to about September. |
After draining my savings by 8.8K on my 03...I certainly hope so!

Here is the 5-yr pricing trend showing mostly continuing decreases but there are a few upticks here and there...

Notice the big gap between 2002 and 2003! Also that the 2003 price barely changed between 2016 and 2017! Would be nice to have the base and S separated.

The price I pay at auction hasn't changes in 4 years. I paid the most I've ever paid for one at auction just a month ago. Granted it was one of the nicest I've ever gotten too. For my side of the business, AKJOE is correct. Most wrecked vehicles going up for auction this time of the year were wrecked 2-5 months ago. That puts the accident happening during winter time which is when most Porsches are tucked away for winter. Fast forward to now and this is when most Boxsters are out driving around or people working on them. Supply is down but demand is up. Even on my side of the business. Fall and winter are the best time to buy Boxsters

I'm curious as to the source if the data? |
Prices
It's all based on MY and presumably some level of lower mileage associated with newer cars. Not enough performance difference between base and s to drive significant price differences within the same MY. These are quickly just becoming old cars. Pulled up next to a new model base civic this week. He beat the crap out of me until I could get it up into the higher portion of the power band but by that time we had run out of road to play with. OUCH!!!!!

These cars are geared for the moon. We will never win drag races. My '04 tops out at 165. She's no drag queen.

That's why you insist upon a "S" ! |

Econo cars nowadays can be surprisingly quick but losing to a base civic?
Either way, i have noticed the prices for 986's creeping up in Norcal but summer approaching seems to be the logical reason. |
Well, maybe it wasn't a base. All I know is it was quick as h$#%. Like Porache9 pointed out, at 6.8s it's only a few tenths slower than a 16 year old s. Which I am sure has lost some oomph. Sorry I let our badge down guys. Unfortunately a bad driver (me) + a slow car = shame & disappointment.

As a 0-60 comparison, our 2014 Audi s5 cab (a 4,100 lb car) with 7 spd DCS trans & launch control enabled consistently turns very low 5s and my 2015 Explorer Sport SUV with Livernois tune consistently turns mid 5s. On a particularly perfect run, the Explo turned a 5.09. The Explo weighs nearly 4,900 lbs. Definitely some technological advancements in the last decade  so it's not only Civics we have to watch out for in the stoplight drags ;) Having said all this, 0-60 is not everything, not even an important aspect to some (me included in the context of my 986 ownership experience). The 986 will bury the Civic and my Explo on the top end and my Explo is just plain scary anywhere north of 90 mph anyway. Anyway, here's the 5.09 run in the Explo. Some of the other info below seems whacked because I shutdown as soon as I had the 60 mph split and made the screen print after I came to a stop. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1494716201.jpg |
