Headlight Amberectomy
Something that a friend did on my 996 was an amberectomy. I have the litronic lights on that car and you'll note there is no inner amber lense. This has been extracted through the turn signal bulb.
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1493781938.jpg So I tried to do this myself on a boxster that I acquired with a blown engine (put a remanufactured engine in it...that is a story in itself). My 2001 came with the full amber outside light. I bought the 2003 headlight assembly that did not have the outside amber. In those lights they had an inner amber lense that kind of ruined the look for the silver boxster even with the 2003 headlight. So I did an amberectomy by using a soldering iron to cut the inner lense through the bulb hole so it can be small enough to just pull the pieces out. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1493782334.jpg Next I bought a silverized turn signal bulbs on ebay so the amber bulb did not add amber reflections in the lense. Here is the picture showing the original 2001 headlight on the left with a 2003 De-ambered headlight on the right. I just love the look....all silver headlights. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1493782618.jpg And the finished product http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1493783067.jpg |
It's a lot easier (and probably faster) to just pop the main lens off and remove it from the inside. You could have removed those burnt lenses while you were in there. ;)
Looks good. ;) |
That can be a future project. This project was about 20 minutes per light.
btw...is there a post that shows taking the lens off... Quote:
