Best Rims

Hey everyone! I just bought a 1998 Porsche Boxster and I really hate the stock wheels... What brands/sources did you guys buy or buy from? Maybe some good deals to recommend? Also, and new-boxster owner-tips would be great. Thanks everyone!http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1492993272.jpg

Tip #1 - use the search function

78F350 04-23-2017 05:22 PM

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on your car and even a pic with your first post
All the tips you need to know about the car initially have been discussed many times. Browse and search the forum. There isn't really a good FAQ thread.
Here's a couple handy links:

Hopefully you have already seen much of that.

Wheels? Help us help you. What are you thinking of? style, size, color? Do you care about weight (yes you do). What are your goals for the car; daily driver, weekender, fashion statement, track/AX?

Tip # 2 - Porsche's have wheels, not "rims". :p

:D

I'm looking for any size from 17-19" rim itself, and I'd like the tears to be about 9" and the fronts about 8". Anything within that range is A Okay with me. I'd like to find some black "WHEELS" rather than silver or gray. Looking for a style a bit like this...http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1492997641.jpg

Have you looked at tire rack. The OZ wheels they offer come in a variety of sizes, colors, and patterns. They're fairly light weight and durable. Might be worth checking out

Wheel, like so many mods, are a personal preference. IMHO, I like the look of the stock Porsche wheels. To my eye, custom wheels just don't look right. But, for others custom wheels make the car. There are a lot of wheel threads out there. So many in fact you'll lose track of time once you start looking.

And, like 78F350 said, welcome to the madness and class act posting a photo of the new ride!

I know the owner of that car below, and he has Victor Equipment Zehn wheels in 18" on that car. It looks nicer obviously cause he has a Ruf aero front bumper and factory aerokit side skirts too...and it's lowered.

My Boxster started off looking very similar to yours, here is mine now with BBS SR wheels 18x8 in front and 18x10 in back. Good luck with the new car!

Take a look at this thread, it might give you some ideas. Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum

An important consideration, in my opinion, is how easy they will be to clean. My BBS Sport Design wheels are very pretty, but it takes me as long to wash them as it does to to do the entire car. And, more significantly, being two piece wheels they suffer from a serious flaw where cleaning solutions continue to seep down through the seam and corrode the finish. As the lip is just clear coat over the polished metal it isn't durable enough to withstand this assault.

Ssaccheri, regardless of what brand and color you're looking for, be very weight sensitive in your selection.

I bought some 18 inch aftermarket Carrera Lights (someone pictured similar ones above on their car) and mine are anything but light! They look great, but holy cow they're heavy and they significantly slow down the car off the line... and my 2.5 motor's torque just doesn't have a lot of extra room for heavy unsprung weight.

What I like about the Tire Rack rims for our cars is the fact they're not heavy at all, and even a bit lighter than stock twists.

BTW, your rear stock twists are worth a lot of money so don't sell them cheap... the boxster spec boys like to run "square" meaning they run the wider wheels from the back in front too so they can rotate tires and get more tire wear out of a set of rubber. They pay dearly for those rear rims.

Front rims can then be repurposed into hose reels around your house :)

Another vote for the carrera lights. They look great and are super easy to clean. Wheels with a really visible barrel look super sharp if you keep them clean.

Turbo twist is my first choice. Such 90s class!

Carrera light is my second for a more modern look.

I love they dynamo wheels or whatever the red tele has on one of his cars too.
