Plastic sounding rattle from center console

2003 Boxster S. I have a nasty plastic sounding rattle that sounds like it is coming from the area below the radio, where my car has two small storage trays. Touching the trays and putting pressure on them does not affect the rattle. I was thinking about taking the trays out to see what's going on in there, but I don't know how to pull the storage trays out of the console. Any tips would be appreciated.

Search for short shift kit where you can find detailed information for removing the center console, includind those storage units. If I recall they are pretty easy. Just carefully pry off the plastic side covers.

The storage bins pull right out. Use a plastic tool to pry one side then the other and they should then come right out.

My guess is there is a phone connector in that area that is not connected to anything and it rattling against the storage bins. You can just stuff it under some of the carpeting or other wiring in there to keep it from moving around. I can't think of anything else other than loose equipment or something left over from PO.

Pry them straight out using any small device, even a long fingernail will work. Minus that anything that wont scratch up the pieces. Everything is snap out down there

I just grab the inside with both sets of fingers, press outward to get some grip, and YANK. works every time.

Thanks guys. I am pretty sure I got them out using the method Randall described once, but it has been a really long time, and they didn't seem to want to come out that way now. I have a nice set of non-marking plastic interior pry tools, so I should be able to get them out.

Last time I drove it, I jammed a folded up shop rag between the upper and lower console pieces and today it seems to have stopped the rattle, even with the rag removed now so it may have been coming from the cover over the top bin.
