What Coolant do you use?
Like the title say's, What coolant do you use for your Porsche Boxster?
|
There are a lot of threads on coolant.
I use the OEM Porsche stuff, because it's really tough to flush the entire system 100% and mixing coolants is bad. |
Porsche coolant here too. It was hard to pull the trigger at $30/gallon but the only other coolant I felt comfortable with was the Zerex extended life. Thing is, the Zerex was about $18/gallon so at the end of the day, I took the variables out of the equation for and bought the OEM stuff.
So I spent an extra $36 bucks for a fluid that should be in my car for the next 6-8 years. |
OEM. Pennies difference over the life of the coolant.
|
When I changed out the coolant tank in my previous car ('01 986S) I emptied the system and filled it with Prestone long life coolant. Worked fine for me. There are certain coolants that can't be mixed. Search on this site for many long discussions and explanations.

There is only 1 coolant that is recommended, Porsche factory coolant.
Yes, it is a few $ more than others, ~ $100 for a full fill (3 gallons diluted with 3 gallons of distilled water) Frankly IMHO, its not worth f'in around with others. In the big scheme of things its a minimal amount more, especially considering it does not get changed very often, many years between flush and fills There are a ton of threads on this, do a search |

I use the Porsche (from Pelican) in my '01. just put Walmart 'Super Tech" in my 2000 and expect to change it again soon as I modify the system. My '99s have either Zerex or Prestone. I looked it all up once or twice and made choices based on which 'facts' I chose to be relevant. Here's my recommendation for you: http://986forum.com/forums/521679-post32.html |
Pentofrost. Pink stuff. Have to look again at what flavor.
