Top Problem...help please

The motion of my top is a little jerky going up. Anyone ever seen this before? Also, are loose heatshields normal? Mine just developed a rattle that sounds like a heat shield and the frequency of which is unrelated to rpm. Anyone else?

Hi,

The top may be experiencing worn Tansmission cables. The sleeve on these tends to expand with time which in turn reduces the depth which the innder cable can engage the tranny. Pull one and see.

Porsche uses what is essentially a self-tapping metal screw to secure the heatshields, invariably, due to stresses and heat cycling, the heatshield metal stretches to the point where the screw can no longer hold it tightly. I had this issue with my car, but was able to rework the metal with a pliers. I'm sure this will be temporary and when it goes again, I'll use a SS Rivnut and SS machine screw to fix the problem permanently. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
