Seat back electric switch repair
 

What do you think are my chances of repairing the switch on my seat controller? The back adjuster switch isn't working. I shot some contact cleaner in and managed to get it to work sporadically for a minute but it just doesn't seem to want to cooperate! Any way to repair these gizmos?

Piece of cake. Pull the trim plate off the seat. Release the 4 catches that hold the switch to the plate.

Inside you see the contacts. There will be black soot on the points. Remove the grey rocker and then the 2 points assemblies. Clean off add some new dielectric grease and reassemble.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1491601550.jpg

Thanks. Although mine doesn't look quite like that, your comments give me hope that this can be accomplished without too much stress!

Just make sure you hold the seat back adjustment lever perfectly centered when you reinstall the switch to the trim plate. The ball on the grey lever of the switch has to fit in it's cup on the adjustment lever or you will only get movement in one direction.

Oh, and BTW, is there one of those little spring thingies in that lever like there is in the other one?

Seems like this contact has lost its springiness. I'll take it apart to see if it can be remedied.

Okay, here's the problem. Missing a spring mounted leg. Now what? Lots of luck finding something like that!

Yep that's the problem all right. While you have it apart remove the 2 rockers and clean the points, There will be small black burn marks that prevent good contact. I used some fine emery cloth on mine. Oh and as far as finding the part you just never know. PM me your address and I can send you the one in my picture.

What kind of seat is it? 2 way adjust? 8 way? Which switch? I have some spares.....

It's an 8 way, I guess. I really only need the small grey rocker part in the picture.

The wonders of epoxy and a Dremel fixed my switch knob. Now all that I need is that tiny toggle bit! Anyone have a spare in their pocket lint? ;)

Actually, using a magnet, I did find the tiny spring that holds the knob away from the plate. That miniscule plastic leg was nowhere to be found. I removed the seat to install my fire extinguisher bracket and found lots of other historical artifacts :eek: but not that.

Not yet. It may be under intense interrogation at the border. Mounties with latex gloves! :eek:

Folks, I broke the same switch on a 997 seat controller board. Replacing the whole board would cost $500 so I'm interested in whether I could find a replacement switch instead. Thanks.
