Had the Boxster Roll Bar Powder Coated in Guard Red

I have considered doing this for years and always put it off for one reason or another. My brother was in town last month so I had him assist me (or more accurately I assisted him) in removing the roll bar. It was pretty easy getting the roll bar out. Just twelve bolts; six on each side. But, getting to them was a chore because the soft top had to come out. Doing it for the first time it took some time. I took it to a place in Los Angeles that had done some work for me in the past. They charged me $350 to powder coat the roll bar. All in all, I am pleased and glad I did it.

At the same time I did this I added the leather pieces I bought from Qmulus. Those included the leather roll bar covers. I also changed the clips on the wind defector and bought new mounting fasteners for the wind deflector. I (read my brother) had to drill out the old side fastener's rivets prior to having it powder coated so it made sense to put new ones on. The new pieces came with their own rivets so I picked up a rivet gun for $4.00 at Harbor Freight. Very easy!

Wow, looks great Chuck! Seeing your work made me wonder if they should come with body color paint from the factory. Well done.

Nice job Chuck!

It really does improve the look of the entire car IMHO.

I was lucky - my 2001 S came with the roll-bar painted (Speed Yellow) as a factory option.

Nice job getting it powdercoated too. The painted ones always seem to have a scratch or chip in the paint somewhere

This was on option that I have on my car. (Also guards red)

Looks great Chuck!

That looks great!

That looks really great! Is it really that easy taking out the soft top? How much does the soft top weight? I have been running a hardtop on track and if it is pretty easy, I may take out the soft top and store it.

Thanks

Steve

You are correct, I considered it at the time I ordered the Boxster. The option code was XMK and it cost $515.00.

Take a look at posting 7 and 8 of the below thread. jsceash posted one of the clearest and easiest way to do it. For me, it was a two person job lifting the top out.

Beautiful car in fantastic condition. Congrats!

Bought my 01 with the roll bar and center console in exterior paint (Meridian Metallic) and couldn't be happier.

That's a GREAT price for powder coating the roll bar. Nice work, Chuck.
