Squeal at start up?

Anyone familiar with a loud short squeal when the engine is fired up? Sounds like a belt is out of whack. Seems it Only happens when the car has been sitting for a while. I also think if I give the car a bit more gas it won't make this noise.
Guess its back to the dealer.

Yes, could be a belt.

It could also be your starter motor. I had one go bad and it would make this noise upon start up, but not every time.

Hard to tell without being there.

Good luck.

Hi,

It could also be any belt-driven ancillary (PS Pump, AC Compressor, Alternator) with a bearing going dry/bad. Similarly, either of the Idler/Tensioner pulleys as well. The secondary Air pump can also make noise at start up. The one on my Esprit goes off every cold start for a few hundred revs until it warms and the vanes expand, but this is usually more of a chirp than a squeal. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Get under there and rub a little soap on it, if it goes away for a few days, your tensioner is likely too tight. Everybody thinks its too loose but it's generally exactly the opposite.
