As a road bike rider I use two lights on the back of my bike, day and night. One blinks and one is solid. It's my understanding the blinking light does a better job of getting peoples attention and the solid is better for them to judge distance.

I'm considering modifying the third light so it blinks on pedal push but then wonk blink again if the pedal is pushed with 8 seconds (so no flashing in heavy traffic).

You know this flashing brake light thingy actually works quite well in bad weather e.g. heavy rain. We have a few here although disappearing quick (illegal, you literally get towed for illegal 'flashing anything' on cars here)

Those lighting experts should sensor them so they work in severe conditions only. If I were to do them that's what I would do anyway (F1 car Inspired!)

This is more reasonable. Stops brake taper type drivers from having their brake light constantly flashing.

Just to be clear....

...the brake light modulators on my motorcycles pulse a rapid sequence that then slows down in a specific way and ends with a solid light.

There was a study that describes the best sequence and my lights were built to that specification.

Google it.
