5 speed shifter alignment tool

does anybody know the part number for the green alignment tool for a 5 speed man shifter? i can find the 6 speed one easy but i heard the 5 speed is different and i cannot get a hold of it. i asked pelican parts and they dont have it.

i have a B&M short shift kit that i'm trying to get perfectly aligned.

thanks,

Cristian

Tool

According to some old posts on RennTech the alignment tool only works with the OEM shifter not any aftermarket shifters like Ben006 or B&M. This is one reason I didn't try to use it.

It is a dealer only item.

It won't fit around the shaft of a B&M shifter.

i think Tommy's right, i do remember the the shaft of the B&M being thicker.

does anybody know exactly what this green piece is there for?
my shifter is missing it..

I'm not sure what it is there for, but some people take it off when upgrading their shifter. I think the cable might rub on it when using a shifter that sits lower in the cradle. I don't have the green part on my shifter which is the Ben006 B&M clone. I haven't had any problems.

ah.. it's starting to make sense. i've never seen it on my shifter because the first time my B&M was installed on my totally stock boxster it was done by my mechanic who was working on my car at the time and did this as well so he prob removed it. and it's true that the right cable sits lower with the B&M and almost catches on some of the plastic edges of the assembly. with the green piece in place it would definitely rub.

I have the green version of this tool; part number molded into it is 997.424.383.01. It seemed to fit onto the factory shifter bases for the 996 as well as the 997 shifter bases.

I the orange tool is functionally different from this green tool, I'm curious how.

There is also a black and a white tool as well; just to complicate things a bit....

From the pictures, it appears the orange one is for a wider shaft

Can't this be hacked by just measurement and jamming it in the correct position?
