Timing chains

I was reading a thread of someone who recently purchased a Boxster and the timing chain broke 3 days into ownership. Was that bad luck? Can things like this be picked up during a PPI?

Bad luck. Boxster are either 5 or 3 chain engines. The chains wear and stretch, but rarely break.
