Steering wheel crest differences
Certainly not a big deal, but I have noted that the steering wheel crest in my 2000 S is different than the crest in my buddy's 2002 S.
Here is mine:
And here is my buddy's:
Specifically, note that mine does not have horizontal red stripes, while the other one does.
Any known reason for the difference? Maybe a unique interior option package? Or else a year-to-year deal? Or what?

Here I thought I got sandpapered wondering why mine was different.

Yeah, it's a bunch of crap.
Tell you what: I'll take that ugly thing off your hands. I'll even give you my 3 spoke airbag with the gorgeous standard silver crest with red bars, no charge.

To my knowledge the silver is 2000S specific.

Interesting ...
Does anyone know if this is Boxster-specific, or if perhaps the 2000 year 911's also had this same deal going on?

A quick look at eBay indicates that Jake may be partially correct. The silver crest are from 2000 Boxsters and Carreras. I had no idea.

Wow. That makes me jealous. My 98 has the crest just sort of molded in the plastic. This is much better looking. What airbag models fit? Just in case I ever run across a parts car.

Any 986 or 996 3 spoke wheel will fit yours.
The wheel and airbag will run you around $400-$500 used, though. I found mine for about $200, but I got lucky.

I have no idea. The seller didn't specify which car/year it came from.

Got so excited by this post I had to register! I must have one of them on my 2000S, can't wait to check when I pick it up in a couple of weeks (had it garaged at home in Ireland)
BTW hello to everyone especially red 986 S owners, I'm sure everyone knows they are the quickest, most desirable and sexiest of them all.
