Turn signal malady.

Yesterday I got in the Boxster to leave work and noticed the turn signal was stuck on right. I clicked it off then turned right again and it stuck again. Next was a left and it stuck again. At the next right, I have to hold it down or it turns off. Etc., etc., etc. Now it has found a home where it always sticks left and will not hold right.

So, anybody messed with this? Is it just time to replace the stalk or is there some quick and easy fix? We're at 80K miles now so I'm thinking it's just wearing out.

TIA!

Hi,

The signal has a Nub (for lack of a better word) which prottrudes from the switch. This Nub contacts an eccentric on the column which acts against it and this is what cancels the Turn Indicator. It is made of Nylon or Poly. It may have worn or broken. Another possibility is that the column switch clamp may have loosened and the switches shifted to the point where they can no longer contact the eccentric (the Switch-to-Column tip has a spec distance of 55mm). Before anything else, I would try to tighten the clamp (accessible through a hole in the bottom of the column trim.) It is a 5mm? Hex nut I believe. If you find it loose, I'd remove the Steering wheel and reset the proper distance described above. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

I'll try that this weekend.

Thanks Jim.
