Talk is cheap :) Mockup tub arrives next week. Tranny is here. Just looked at the Audi S4 V8 last week. 3k for 340hp and 7200 RPM and I know it bolts to the Boxster tranny :)

Sorry.. was spending money on other things in life..

Call us when this is done. If it is done! :D

Took forever to find a FREE Boxster tub. Had to wait until one of our BoxsterSpec buddies crunched one at LV during a DE :)

Met with LAPD yesterday and bought 2 engines from them. One Cayenne VR6 engine for another conversion using a BoxsterS 6 speed and one low mileage 2.5 engine for a racer who popped an engine at CA Speedway last weekend with POC.

They will sell me the next Cayenne V8 they receive for 5k. The other engines were sold to me for 3k each.

I also know the V10 Audi/Lambo engine bolts up to the 6Speed box :)

I could see making this work, however from what I can surmise, there is no way to get all this to fit under the standard engine cover, which means that one would lose the capability to have a top. Trunk modifications may be necessary too? Maybe in a Cayman? Or a Boxster with a Zeintop?

Sure would be a blast to drive I'm sure!

Brad Roberts 05-21-2009 07:51 PM

The most you would lose is the smugglers box above the engine cover. No need to lose the top. From crank centerline to the top of the V8 intake is 17inches. Crank centerline to the top of a 996 engine is 15inches. The intake on the V8's is buried in between the heads down low :)

That is why they call it a DONOR car; it is just like donating a heart to someone. Wait, I only have one heart right?

Cloudsurfer 05-22-2009 04:07 PM

That's a good point I didn't think about (the intake being in the V).... 2 inches of extra height really isn't all that big a deal. So....once you get the S4 V8 in there...what is going to run the engine, ECU wise, and how is that going to talk to the rest of the car?

Brad Roberts 05-26-2009 01:58 PM

I'm going to cheat on the first one and put it into a 97-99 chassis that doesn't need a lot of "speak" amongst the electronics.

I also happen to have an ACE up my sleeve at Audi here in SoCal. Their engine emissions center is in Santa Monica.. and they have to have stand alone brains/harnesses to test ALL their engines, and a good friend happens to be a head honcho over there (otherwise I wouldn't even attempt this)

Also: the computers can be run by just giving them the info they need to operate. They can stay in place if need be and receive a tach signal or whatever. The Hinda kids have been doing this for YEARS. Multiple computers.

Picked the engine up this past Saturday :) 60k miles on it. Already have located an oil pan for it (the stock pan is stupid deep to clear the front diff) From crank centerline to the top of the plenum is only a couple of inches higher than a stock 996 engine.

As soon as I figure out how to get it out of my truck.. LOL I'll get it under the tub.

FYI: 500hp on pump gas is easily obtainable for under 15k

I sure wish I lived near you so I could help you with this project!

Very cool. I can't wait for more pix.

I tell you what. When it's done I think I will find a way to get to you and get a ride in it!

Will you offer rides to visitors from afar?

Brad Roberts 06-09-2009 11:36 AM

I grew up in North Texas (over 25 years of my life was spent there) so Texan's ride free LOL

It will be awhile. This is not my only project, but I did speak with my tranny guy's this morning, and I will have what I need to make this work against a CaymanS 6 speed before the end of this month. I'll mock it up with a 5 speed bare case.

Topless 06-09-2009 11:51 AM

Now that is a proper Boxster powerplant!
Need some help getting it out of your truck? I do live around the corner you know. :)

Fred Demara 06-09-2009 01:38 PM

looks like someone went to great lengths to scratch the vin# off the drivers side door sill...

Brad Roberts 06-09-2009 01:57 PM

Yeah.. I was not real happy about that, but the owner of the tub delivered it to me and explained "why" he did it. It is a mockup tub that is WRECKED big time in the front.. so it is not like it is going anywhere any time soon.

B

Brad Roberts 06-09-2009 01:58 PM

Topless,

I'm having a Porsche get together June 20th!! Come over!! I posted it in another thread somewhere.

B

Topless 06-09-2009 02:01 PM

I will see you there! If you have this car running perhaps we will need to do a little check out ride.

Brad Roberts 06-09-2009 02:04 PM

It won't be running by then!! I have multiple JRZ shock installs and an engine swap to complete before the 20th. Then I have a CaymanS project coming in.. This is a non-paying side project so it will be a slow one.

B

Fred Demara 06-09-2009 02:23 PM

humm, of all the stories he could have told you, that's the silliest sounding. You might want to run a carfax on it...nothing like pouring 200 hours of work into a project to find out your "free tub" was liberated from some poor guy via "five finger discount" if you know what I mean.

Brad Roberts 06-09-2009 02:32 PM

No no.. it is a MOCKUP tub for me. It will never see the street again for any reason. He wrecked the car several months ago.

FYI on Carfax: If I pay CASH to have the car repaired at the body shop... you will NEVER know that it was wrecked. They can only gather info from insurance companies and DMV related stuff.

B

Fred Demara 06-09-2009 02:43 PM

humm, that makes it seem even more odd that he would go to such lengths to scratch the vin# off.

Yes, carfax won't catch most repairs...but if this "free tub" is stolen, it'll be in there.

again.. I know the owner personally.. I originally did ALL the suspension and alignments for him before he hit a stack of tires at Las Vegas. He gutted/stripped this tub to move everything over to another tub.

B

Fred Demara 06-09-2009 02:51 PM

ahh, well in that case...but still couldn't hurt to double check, though.... :)

Glad to see you mocking this up. When I first read the post I thought it was just bench racing. :D It will be interesting to see how this works out.

BoxsterSbob 08-07-2009 03:43 PM

My interest is totally peaked. Please keep this going. I certainly want to know if a kit can be made to swap-out the F-6 for a Porsche/Audi twin turbo 6 or a Porsche/Audi V8.

Why stop there ? Any one thinking twin turbo W12... Just kidding :) I think the V8's enough.

Question didn't the VW/Audi group make a W8? And, wasn't the point of that motor to fit into a Passat? Maybe that's the right sized motor for a Boxster? Thoughts?

2 problems with the W8: like the W12, they break crankshafts. which leads to the second problem that there are no internal parts available from the dealer. long blocks only, $20K...

and why doesn't the QUOTE work right on this board?

Actually, it works just fine!

Check out this thread for some updates.
http://www.914club.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=69069&st=200&start=200

go to page 14 for some pictures.

teaser: LS1 is the priority at the moment!

FUHRIUS 05-18-2010 09:09 AM

how about the new 'coyote' ford 5.0 v8?

hmmmm....a 'Forsche' ?

dyno's are showing these motors putting out 435hp / 400tq stock!

Lil bastard 05-18-2010 11:22 AM

If I'm putting a Cayenne V8 in anything, this is where I'd like to put it:

http://usera.ImageCave.com/boxster99...olex%2038a.jpg

ARModen 05-18-2010 02:02 PM

Well the answer for the height issue is dump the roof and cut the top of the engine compartment as necessary. I doubt you're making a daily driver. Since the car will basically be a carrerra GT, you might as well go with that sort of speedster humps with mess to show off the big beast. It'd be a better show car, sound better/louder, and save some top end weight in the process.

Lobo1186 05-18-2010 03:10 PM

well its more logical just to drop a LS3 in it. 6.2L 450 ftlbs torque and 460HP. besides brad will have his conversion car up and running alegedly by junish.

grantsfo 05-19-2010 09:10 AM

2.5 liter STi motor from a Subi would be more in keeping with the cars balance - easy to get 350 to 400 HP from those motors. Too bad know one has looked at that route yet.

Kroggers 04-04-2012 03:33 AM

Brad, did you ever finish this project? Do you now have a running Boxster with a Cayenne engine in it?
