1st time Porsche owner today
Just drove home in my 2001 Boxter S triple black 54,000 miles
never thought i would buy a Porsche in my life but it was too nice to pass up. Need advice on removal of ugly whale tail mod on the trunk lid would it be easier/cheaper to buy and replace entire lid or remove fill holes and repaint to bring back to the classic look. I can not wait to get working on this car and enjoy it next summer |
Welcome,
A basic need for the rest of us is some pictures, you can,t beat a Boxster for value for money, Alan |
Post up some pictures. Let's see what you have.
|
Welcome to the addiction!!!
Woody on here breaks Boxsters and may be able to help with a rear decklid in black. His screen name is itsnotanova |
Welcome to the family....
|
Welcome to the forum and to the realm of Porsche ownership. I don't think there is another car that is so fun to drive.
As others have said - "post your pics please" and +1 on the advice for contacting Woody on obtaining used parts. |
Congrats and welcome, Jimmy. In addition to pics, tell us the story of why, when and how you came to acquire this fine auto.

Welcome to the madness. Great purchase.
As far as the trunk, I agree. It may be cheaper to just replace the lid than have body work done on it and repainted. There are two GREAT sources out there for used Boxster parts. One is Woody; AKA itsnotanova, on this forum. Here is a link to his posting. http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-parts-sale-wanted/52469-parting-out-whole-lot-boxsters.html Another great source is qualityporscheparts on eBay. Here is a link where they have a couple black trunk lids listed for |

Get out before you start selling your prized possessions (Home, wife, children, pets) to support this addiction If you ask about motor oil... Just stand back from the interweb device Really welcome and enjoy and pictures |
Most excellent and welcome. But, you have to post a picture of the 'whale tail.' I am having a hard time even imagining this abomination. :barf:
|
Welcome! If you post pictures, there may be a 3rd option for fixing your "whale tail" .. Perhaps removing it and replacing it with something else that is more to your liking but covers the holes made for the whale tail, or maybe even reuses them!

. . . . Welcome |
Try ask someone with a black car that wants a duck tail if they would swap with you?

I think that spoiler 'duck' tail looks pretty cool. I am not into those wheels though.
|
I like
The speed humps or whatever they are called

Hey JIMMYC, there is a white tag attached to the underside of the front hood. On it are all of the options your Boxster came with. Post a photo of it and we'll decipher it for you.
Should look like this; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps6f7b837c.jpg |
That's a nice looking Boxster. Those look like SSR GT3 wheels. If you are getting rid of the spoiler and wheels, may I ask how much? If you are near VA, I may be able to provide you a set of 17" twists.

Thanks Chuck , Look forward to hearing from you on this hope you can make out the details |
Congrats on the purchase! Like Alex, I may be interested in the wheels. I'm hopefully about to close on a Boxster S that has stock turbo twists, so if you wanted to do a trade we should chat.

Thanks Chuck , look forward to information from this I wii def consider offers when I get ready to change wheels etc just enjoying driving this weekend before storage beckons |
Welcome and congratulations!
Its a great looking car but maybe the previous owner might have been trying a little too hard. The wheels, the speedster humps, the upgraded lights, the wing... (a lot of bolt on upgrades). I hope that the PO spent as much time and money maintaining and upgrading that parts that can't be seen. |
You can download the options list here to decipher the option codes: PorscheOptionCodes.pdf
Here is how to read the label: http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/...ctoryCodes.jpg |
Looks like a nicely optioned Boxster. Post some photos of the interior.

Like I said, nicely optioned. |
There are a lot of really nice Porsche rims out there, lots to choose from, which is good, as I agree with you, not liking those rims. Keep an eye on eBay, or check with itsnotanova, he might have some originals kicking around. He's our resident parts guy.

I am not well versed enough to tell if that is the spoiler from the factory Aerokit. That was a pricey option (XAA) that came with the front and rear spoiler and Rocker Panel covers .. $6,225! Either Woody or qualityporscheparts will be able to get you some correct wheels. Then sell the ones that came with the car to recoup some of you money. Snow... Snow... I cannot imagine. I have never driven the Boxster in the rain much less be benched for months due to snow. Enjoy the Boxster and keep us posted on your progress. |
