Ebrake issue

I pulled up a bit hard on the ebrake handle tonight and for some reason couldn't get it to release. When I pulled off the bit off molding to see what was up, |I noticed that a pin/sleeve had slid out about a centimeter causing the whole unit to shift so that I cant release it. No it's not that I need to pull harder and then press to get it to release. The button actually slides in and stays in because it's out of position.

Is there a way to disconnect or loosen it from within the car so I don't have to pull the wheels? It's raining very hard at the moment.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I tried to pull the sleeve/race/pin..whatever it's called out the rest of the way but only managed to chew it up. It's pretty soft.

the answer is yes you can
under the little cubby behind the ebrake is the adjustment bolt.
loosened off all the way I was able to get it to release
then pound the race/pin etc back into place
what a PITA but I stayed dry

thanks all
