Boxster Badge coming off..
 

OK, I have a stupid questions but Im sure this is not unusual.

The Boxster emblem on my car is peeling up at the front of the B and it's only a matter of time before I break it off while cleaning the car.
For whatever reason I do not want to debadge.

I have tried and failed with 2 Kinds of doublestick tape.

These emblems have been an issue since the Box arrived. They will replace them under warranty and do all the time.

They ARE cheap but a pain to keep putting back on.

I don't know anyway to help them stay put other than proper install and being careful when washing and drying.

So, just buy a new one and reinstall? I can live with that.

Yup! There are a few threads around about the best way to do this. I think Randall's got it down pat. Something about dental floss...

I'll be doing the same thing shortly since I now apparently own an "oxster".

yeah, Dental floss is the ticket, removed and replaced my "Carrera" badge with that.

This is why I decided to go with the 986S Badge on my trunk. Kind of steep at $80 from Bumperplugs.com but I like the minimal more Porsche traditional serial number thing

I like the serial number thing also but.. the S looks funky on there.. not Symmetrical. No offense sir.

Oh-Oh. Now you've done it. We're going to have to over the whole symmetrical "S" thing. PLUS you called him SIR!

I like that 986S badge, first time I have seen it. Very very nice!

BTW-I have found that wd40 left on the glue will dissolve nicely. A lot less messy and more effective than goo gone in my experience.

order the 968 badge from the internet and paint it yourself with some spray cans.
Use a primer for plastics, and adhesion promotor and clear coat spray for wheels.
They have all that stuff at Pep Boys.
Duplicolor makes a nice kit in two tone chameleon colors. Maybe one of them will look nice on your boxster. I saw a Cayman in that chamleon color. Green in with gold undertones in the direct sunlight.

my badge looks better in person. It looks weird in photos because the background and surfaces come off as being flat.

I just put that 986 badge on mine, I put a black one on, looks sharp. The like how it is very subtle with the black body color. It was twenty something $$ from Eagleday. The only problem is I can't seem to get that boxster outline out which was left by the regular boxster badge. How the hell can u get that off?

I just debadge mainly because it's a pain in the ass to avoid getting wax in between the letters and then it drys and it's hard to get all of the white residue out. Then there is the problem of the Badge starting to lift off a little. When my son was cleaning my Boxster for me (The one and only time) he caught the polishing or cleaning cloth on the edge of the B and broke part of it off. Since then I've nearly done the same thing myself a few times.

I bought new Boxster & S badges (they were very reasonably priced, like $20) but I decided to go badgeless for a while.

I used Afta cleaning fluid (Carbon-Tetra-Cloride) and some dental flosh to easily remove the badges and double stick tape residue. Just wet with the Afta and then get some dental flosh behind the badge and with a sawing motion work your way from one end of the badge to the other.

My wife knows that I am very proud of my "S" so she said to me "but how will people know that it's an "S"? I told her I don't care, I'll know.

I know what you mean. I had that outline on mine too. After rubbing with Afta solvant I used polishing compound. The stuff for removing oxidation and contaminants. I got it all out.

I really like that 986 badge look and on your silver car I'm sure it looks great. I'm going to stay with no badges for a while because it's easier to polish the trunk without one.

Has anyone seen a 987 badge online? I have only ever seen the 986's.

I ordered an '08 and ordered with the script delete option -- the script is a pain to clean around and doesn' t really add to the look of the car -- I would leave it off. Just my opinion .

Another vote for debadging, I think it looks tacked on anyways. Next will be removing the hood emblem and replacing it with a 911 RS light weight emblem, also known as a sticker.
