New purchase - 97 UK Boxster

Hi All

Im new here - so forgive me if this has already been asked but I have just purchased my first porsche - a 1997 Boxster - however it only has one key and no owners manuals, etc.

I have looked on ebay for anoter key and manual, but understand that you cant just buy keys and get them re-programmed to your car. I also am unable to find any owners manuals - can anyone on here please help.

Many thanks
John

Sadly, you are likely off to the Porsche dealer near you.

The key is unique to Boxster and has to be cut and programmed to work with your car.

Manuals should be about $30. Key is about $225 US

Best of luck with your car!

Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt the 97 key cheaper?

Good point, and I am not certain.

I THINK if this is a remote key, it is the same as later years, ie you need a programming and a cut key.

Randall might know as he has a 97!

RANDALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think a 97 key is "cheap" or "cheaper". Just about scared the stink out of me when I found out what my dealer was going to charge me! But then I quickly discovered my dealer charges 2x or 3x the retail price on every single thing that Porsche owners can't live without... keys, radiator caps, oil, filters, etc.

John, I know you are in the UK, but you may find that buying a key head and key blank (and that manual for the car that you really do need) from Sunset in Oregon would be your cheapest way out.

Your British pound is worth a lot on this side of the pond, and for such a small box, the shipping costs won't be absurd.

They're running a sale on key heads right now.

Had you posted this a month ago, I could have brought them to you... I was in the UK for 10 days for work with nothing to do and a Britrail pass. I could have delivered them to you.
