$2236.00 Oil leak repair at Porsche

I was looking at the service record from the dealer in which I purchased my car, there was a charge from Newport Porsche for $2236.00 for an oil leak repair which was done prior to the dealer selling me the car. Of course I called Newport Porsche and they would not tell me anything (not sure why, now they won't get my service business) so I was wondering does that sound like a repair for the RMS? I'm just curious, I have a very good and long warranty so I'm not worried but I was going to have it inspected prior to my 30 day warrany expiring and wanted to have the tech look into it just in case. Thanks.

I would expect that $2236.00 would be the total price for a typical RMS repair over at Newport Porsche. They quoted me around $800. for just an Oil Separator replacement (>$650.00 just for labor)...Of course i didnt have them touch my car LOL

I would look elsewhere for repairs rather than Newport Porsche. I will refrain from public criticism, only the advice.

That is very possible, I don't know what their labor rates are, but the RMS is about 17 bucks, the labor is about 10 hours, and the my retail on the clutch (if they replaced while in there) would be about 500 bucks, though porsche retail is always listed higher.

Thanks for the replies, I did not get an estimate from them its a repair they did last month the dealer paid for where I got my car. I was hoping to find out what it was so I can have the fellow doing my inspection look at it. I figured they would be nice(newport) and tel me the history but I guess not, I have read many poor comments about the service there so I will not use them. Is there any way I can get a Porsche dealer to run a history or is that asking to much? I know on my Rover its not an issue as my dealer ran it for me but I sense its not the same with Porsche?

Each Porsche dealer only has access to the service it has performed on cars at that dealership. However, all Porsche dealers have access to any WARRANTY work done at any dealership. By warranty work, I mean work covered under Porsche warranty.,

Hence, the only dealer who can reveal the service that your owner paid for would be Newport Porsche.

Sorry!

If you can obtain the name of the previous owner (or if the selling dealer will contact) you may be able to obtain a copy of the invoice or he/she can tell you what was done.

Hi,

I had the same issue when I first got mine. The local Dealer said it was a Privacy issue. I replied: "you're a Car Dealership, not a Doctor, Attorney, or Priest! And we're talking about a Car here, not Erectile Dysfunction!.."

He laughed, but said it was the policy of the Dealership. Just as he said this, he laid the printout on the desk so I could see it. Fortunately, only routine maintenance and a warranty RMS @ 4k mi. Car is now at 25k mi. and dry as a bone... :)

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Yes, Jim, the dealer pulled this on me also. I pointed out that I already knew who the owner was, so there was no privacy invasion at all. Moreover, I did not want any info on the owner, just on the service history.

The silliness some dealers employ!
