I want to keep my automatic transmission
I am replacing my 2.7 automatic (IMS failed) engine with a used 2.7 engine (that will have a newly installed by me LN bearing) that originally had a 5-speed transmission. I want to keep my auto transmission. Any extra parts I need? Any advice?

Hopefully you have the old engine to scavenge a few things.
Starter and alternator have minor differences, but IMO not critical. Look up the part numbers. Tip (option M249 in the catalog) alternator is without the freewheel lock. Tip starter has higher output. Here's the parts catalog if you don't already have it. http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/986_USA_KATALOG.pdf I did it about two years ago. Here's some info copied from my old thread: Quote:

Yes, the old engine is still in the car.
Thanks for all the info! |
I successfully did the opposite - installed an engine from a salvage car with the tip into a my car with a 5-spd. Same process and fairly straight forward.
I already have another spare engine (also from a tip) that will need to be converted to work with a 5-spd when my current engine fails. |
Did you take the transmission out with the engine, or leave it in the car and just remove/replace the engine itself?
