i broke something that i think is not fixable
as silly as it sounds breaking these things is such a pain in the ass:
http://i1314.photobucket.com/albums/...psojmk5pzi.jpg http://i1314.photobucket.com/albums/...psogydsksu.jpg http://i1314.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5qpbeztl.jpg it's where you screw the two visor torx screws which ultimately hold the top in place as thats where it hooks up on the sides. i might have tightened it too much i dont know.. is this even fixable? how do you even get those out they look like they were put there when the chassis was put together. any ideas on what can i do to make it stay in place? right now i have electrical tape on the screws just so they dont fall out and that visor corner is sagging a bit plus i feel there is more vibration from the top. any help would be appreciated guys. thanks, Cristian |
It's fixable, but takes a little work...

What you have is a threaded insert. Its pulled into position much like a rivet. But they will spin if you honk them.
I`d go to a body shop and have a chat. It`s not that bad. And Google nut inserts, nut plates in specialty hardware. |

i will most likely try to tackle this on my own and will post the results |
Very nice! Swap out those Amber (orange colored) side markers and headlights to clear, and it'll be perfect!

(said he who wrote that DIY many a year ago...) Download the original DIY pdf file Mike still graciously hosts for me as it has a few more pointers and better pix. Good luck :) |
I'm no wrencher and I managed to fix this same problem back in the spring so I figure anyone can fix this. As others have said; the hardest part is digging out the broken brass pieces. Just follow the instructions in the link provided. Super Easy.

Nurserts and tool on their way so will be tackling it this week. I feel my top is rattling quite a bit and after I get this done the car will feel solid again.

guess i never updated this. the guide provided above worked like a charm and with a 70$ tool i got on amazon (guess i should have tried and borrow one instead :D) i got the job done and the top is tighter than ever. major pain fishing out the bits and in some cases i simply couldn't dig it out so i filled with silicone so that it doesn't jiggle about. it wasn't pretty but it did the job.
thanks for all the great tips guys! what i thought was another "crap i shouldn't have over tighten that" moment turned out to be a pretty easy fix. Cristian |
Thanks for updating your threads. I hate when you have a problem, find a thread that has the same problem and they don't tell you how it worked out.
