So I got the Durametric today but I have not run the eng yet.
The code that it pulled is a
Porsche fault code 322 - camshaft position with respect to bank 1.
Can anybody give any direction on what it might be without me starting the eng.
Thanks

He is a screen shot of the Durametric.
I can't find the part number it is referring to.
Anybody know?

We have an update...
We got the eng pulled and removed the scavenger pumps.
We have metal and chain guide material every where..
The chains are messed.
At this point we are going to look for a used eng and at a later date dig deeper into his eng to see what went wrong.
We are now looking for a replacement eng or a wrecked car.
He has a 2003 base with a 2.7 and tiptronic.
Anybody out there that can help we would appreciate it.
Thanks for everyone's help today! Unfortunately it is a worse case outcome.
Bart

Hello Bart,
thanks for the update. That's definitely not good. I took a look at the video and noises again. Think the bad engine has to be disassembled completely. Check the connecting rod bearings. Do you know if the car was used for racing?
Hope somebody can supply you with a good replacement engine.
Regards, Markus

It will be interesting to learn what initiated the carnage. We can learn from the post-mortem even if it is just one of the classic "Modes of Failure" for the M96.
What failed first?
1. Did the oil pump drive shaft fail ? upgraded part availble from LN
2. Did the chain ramps disintegrate ? known weakness
3. Weak chain tensioner(s) + over-rev ? age/abuse/low oil pressure
4. Stretched chain(s). known weakness on older M96 for which upgrades are available
