Indicator Switch Replacement

Hi

Boxster indicator switch won't stay in position. Electronics all work, but the stalk itself won't remain in the right-turn position. I understand this is not uncommon, and I've found the Youtube replacement video (really good, that).

I have the three stalk (i.e. includes Cruise) switch setup on an '03 2.7 (UK).

1) Is there a way of confirming the part number before I take everything to pieces (it's a daily driver...)
2) Can I replace with a 2-stalk unit (I never use the cruise control...seems weird on a Boxster). Will it mess with the car electrics, or is it just a straight swap.
3) What does the 4-stalk give me - and will it work straight away, or will I need some electrical/ECU type of upgrade before I can use it?

Cheers and thanks in advance

Easy stuff. Below are the part numbers. The ones ending in 00 are for ’97 to ’01 Boxsters and have a gloss finish. The ones ending in 01 are for ’02 to ’04 Boxsters and have a matte finish. They are all interchangeable and the finish is not all that noticeable. But, to be year correct you would want the ones ending in 01 with the matte finish.

2-Stalk 99661321300
3-Stalk 99661321700
4-Stalk 99661321900

2-Stalk 99661321310
3-Stalk 99661321710
4-Stalk 99661321910

You can use a two, three or four stalk switch on your Boxster. Even though you have the cruise control option, the two stalk switch will work. You’ll just have a single plug from the car’s wiring harness that won’t be used.

You can add the four stalk switch and it will give you the option of adding the OBC (On Board Computer) function. There are a ton of articles and videos on how to do this.

IMHO, put the four stalk in. Even though you don’t use the cruise control it would be nice to have for any future owners or drivers. And, the OBC is a very cool function. As long as you are going to be getting a new switch it is a great time to upgrade to the OBC.

With some basic tools and a moderate to low level of mechanical abilities this is an easy and doable DIY project.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Chuck.

Are those numbers universal - they'll apply in the UK as well?

EBay search now on automatic.

Good Point... I don't know. I would think so.
