Dang...

Porsche9 08-18-2016 07:34 AM

Delusional might be a better description.

RandallNeighbour 08-18-2016 08:43 AM

I'm guessing they just tossed it up on the web site so they could come back and add pix and adjust the price and add written features. At least that's my logical thought.

Someone should call them and offer $13k for the car sight unseen saying that's all it's worth and find out what they say...

Perfectlap 08-18-2016 09:34 AM

I was sure it was going to say $3K miles.

more miles than dollars asked....

This sounds like a fat finger error.

CoBeerToad 08-18-2016 10:46 AM

It has an AM/FM cassette player, so there's that.

Don't forget "Stereo w/Anti-Theft Coding"!!! makes it special LMAO

Considering that car was only 50-55K new back in 2002... 32K is crazy!

Oops! Removed because I was wrong!

Here's the spec sheet, according to this URL (works for some but not others; my 2000 S isn't in the database)

Optimism

Guys, are we not our own worst enemy? Yes, these cars have issues but what car doesn't. Yes, there are a lot of them out there so I get the supply and demand argument. However, there is no denying they deliver a lot of fun and are a real kick in the pants to drive. My point is...why should we as owners of these great little cars not demand a more reasonable price? Why continue to support the whole over blown ims issue which only fills the pockets of those folks that have exploited it from the beginning.

I guess I just hate to see this great little car that has so much going for it continue to be maligned. It's partly our responsibility to start changing things don't you think?

There are always shady fortune hunter everywhere. Even over here in Germany:

You can't argue with the market.

There are toooooo many water-cooled Porsches for sale and too few buyers willing to risk money on an out-of-warranty German luxury car that requires overpriced parts and specialized labor, for a novice at least which is most buyers.

The affliction of my Porsche is worth 30% more than the market says is systemic.
It gets worse every time you have to replace the clutch, water pump or shocks. There is no medication currently available for this. :D

PaulE 08-18-2016 02:37 PM

So could I trade them my 03 S with 62,000 miles and have them pay me some cash plus give me their 02 Base with 43,000 miles?

Prestige BMW in NJ was trying to sell a 2003 or 4 BMW M3 with no miles for a mid $60K price a year ago, don't know if they ever succeeded him n getting that price.

lkchris 08-18-2016 03:27 PM

This might look pretty good on the same lot as a $70-90k 718 with a 4-cylinder engine and no spare tire.

That's it. I have a doc that has a lease on a 991. He is not happy with the car but can't sell, swap or trade it without taking a huge hit. There are so many water cooled Porsche out there. Hummmmmm .. I should check out the 997.2s again.

There's also an 04 550 Spyder that's been sitting on Ebay for a while. 33k miles, $35,000 !!!!!

Porsche Boxster s 550 Spyder 1 of 1953 Special Edition | eBay

I have a feeling it's going to sit there for a while. (it's not #1 as the title implies....it's #952)

I think the ad meant that it's 1 out of 1953 produced. Not #1.

Maybe they have this one priced so high so the other cars on their lot look like a bargain.

10/10ths 08-19-2016 02:17 PM

Well.......

......FWIW, I actually paid quite a bit above the going rate for my 2004 "50 Years of 550 Spyder" Edition a year ago.

She only had 25,000 miles on her, was in showroom fresh condition, had a complete car fax that showed everything was done, by the book, by a Porsche dealer, and I was able to talk to the service writer that serviced the car, the tech at the dealership where it was traded in who performed the PDI, and test drove her myself and crawled all over the car.

So, there are people like me who will pay a premium for the RIGHT car.

I didn't pay as much as the car listed above, but I payed more than $20,000.

But, for me, it was the EXACT Boxster I wanted to own and I have been enjoying every mile since.

Cheers.

And, in the end, that is all that counts. Nicely said and done.

Exactly. And in some ways this is how appreciation comes into play. Something only goes up in value is someone else really wants it and is willing to pay.

Agreed. I wasn't inferring that the right car won't get as much money as the market demands, just that the car in question was almost $10,000 higher than any other 550 currently for sale. And the last one on Ebay went for under $20k, albeit with 62,000 miles.

Porsche Boxster s Convertible 2 Door | eBay

If I had the extra cash (and room in the garage), I'd likely pay a premium for the right 550 or 2011-12 Spyder as well.
