Oil on resonance tubing?
Having recently gotten a MAF-related CEL, decided to give it a spray w/ MAF cleaner. In the process I noticed…
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psp648mat0.jpg Theories? What would be high on the list as to why I’ve collected oil on the resonance tubing? |
I have the same thing, although not as bad.
|
if it's only on the outside...
and by being on the second resonance tube, I would guess that the culprit party be the steering pump (or reservoir) leak..
|
Agree. Seepage from power steering pump blowing backwards onto the resonance tubes.
Inspect the front of the engine by removing the access panel behind the seats - there might be similar evidence of fluid seepage there. Whether to repair or not will depend on the amount of seepage or leaking. And don't forget to check the power steering fluid level often if you intend to drive it this way. |
It's funny, power steering fluid seepage never dawned on me as a probable culprit. It's funny especially because, as one of those "while I'm here" items, I did check the level. It was good. But I didn't look closely around the fill opening to see if there had been any leakage. And, of course, everything's closed up again at this point :o
I can probably take another gander at it before the end of the week... |
I had similar seepage and I replaced the Power Steering cap O-Ring.
It's now clean as a whistle! |
