I should have been on forum years ago

I should have registered on this forum years ago.

I've had my Boxster about 10 years, and of course, I browsed this forum and Rennlist, etc, but never joined. I have never been a big fan of electronic "socializing", hence never used any social media platform; always preferred real world interaction over the option of using a keyboard to modify a flow of electrons to create binary smoke signals that waft into the ether-sphere to be viewed by anyone who takes a break from Angry Birds or porn. Not to mention that the anonymity provided by the comfort of never actually having to defend yourself in person suddenly turns some who would never fart in church into rabid MMA keyboard ninjas lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce. All of that combined with the inability to try and get any type of accurate read of a personality always made me feel like I was just a subject in some bizarre real world Turing test. Anyway, so why am I here?

I finally joined this forum for informational purposes, like some Porsche centric wiki or a reference book that you keep on the shelf "because some day I might need it". You know what I found? Information...gobs of it. Advice from helpful people who have been there, done that. I found people who see a car as I do and have a passion for not just the car, but also for the human who sets behind the wheel. I also found entertainment in reading posts that have gone far beyond the intent of the original post, or posts that were made purely to share some experience.

I am not going to segue into PCA, but this is what I would like it to be (and really, I guess it is, but here it's more "instant and constant"); a place to talk all about Boxsters with nice people...too bad it's all virtual, or the next round would be on me.

Welcome! This forum has for the most part a pretty great group of people. Glad that you joined.

Well said.

I think that you'll find that many people here felt the same way about social media but the amazing thing is that social media CAN actually connect you with people that you would probably never have met in "real" life. Many of us do meet in person and its a great experience to find those kindred souls who share the same passion.

Now, the only thing I don't get is when you talk about "taking a break" from porn. I'd suggest simply getting a second monitor.... :)
